Ten out of 17 hotels opened in China last May were international luxury hotels, according to the May 2015 China Hotel Industry Data Report by Meadin.com.
The others opened in the same period include three domestic luxury hotels, one boutique hotel and one mid-range hotel. They provide a combined total of 5,549 rooms, an increase of 286.69% from April, when 4,114 rooms were added. Geographically, 10 of the new hotels are in eastern China, five in western China, and one each in central and northeastern China.
One industry observer said increased demand of the leisure, corporate and MICE travel segments have boosted mid-range hotel segment at the expense of economy hotels. International luxury hotel brands are making significant headway in the Chinese market especially in the economically vibrant eastern seaboard.
This region has a large number of multinationals, businesses and conventions that provide the right market environment for the development of international luxury hotels.(Translation by David)
