Navigation app Gogocity recently received RMB5 million in an angel investment round from Shenzhen-based Fortune Link’s subsidiary Foshan Fortune Link Investment and GF Xinde Investment Management.
Gogocity helps users navigate when visiting attractions on foot. Its biggest attribute is that it provides directions in real-time against a live background using the smartphone GPS, gyroscope sensor and phone camera. It uses a customized algorithm to calculate the difference in longitude and latitude between the user’s current position and the destination.
Users can also add tags such as “the last meeting venue” to previously visited locations. Its new version has a “shake” function that displays the nearest locations that match pre-entered lifestyle information on the screen after shaking.
Gogocity has made adjustments to its user interface by supporting user customization while also adding more narrowly defined fields such as gourmet, entertainment, shopping, hotel and lifestyle. Overall, the interface is more flat. When in use for real-time navigation the 2D arrow converts to a 3D pointer.(Translation by David)
