Chinese tourists flock to Africa

Chinese tourists made 1.2 times more travel bookings to Africa from February to August this year compared to last year.

Africa, with its unique natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Chinese tourists. From exploring the ancient and mysterious pyramids in Egypt to witnessing the breathtaking animal migration in Kenya and visiting the blue-and-white town in Morocco, many Chinese travelers are now choosing Africa for their vacations.

African tourism has gained momentum in recent years and is now a favored destination for Chinese outbound travelers.

Data from Trip.com indicates that the number of orders for trips to Africa has increased by about 1.2 times from February to August compared to the same period last year.

Statistics from travel service platform Fliggy reveal that flight bookings to Africa this year has nearly doubled this year compared to the same period last year, with Egypt and Kenya seeing the highest growth rates of 236% and 167%, respectively.

Cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, Chongqing, Xi'an, Xiamen, and Qingdao are among the top sources of tourists traveling to Africa.

A representative from Tongcheng Travel said that the average number of tourists traveling to Egypt from January to August this year increased by 200% compared to last year.

Mengran Li, Media and Public Relations Manager at Utour Travel Group, noted that the summer and September-October period align with the peak season for witnessing Africa's great animal migration. Currently, bookings for African destinations are very encouraging, with a year-on-year increase of 30% to 35%.
